  • WordPress or Website Builders

If you have a desire to get a website, you probably have done a little research on the idea. I am sure the name “WordPress” has come up a lot. Then there are website builders like “Wix” and “Weebly” and many more. So, you are faced with a choice, WordPress or Website Builders, which one?

What is WordPress?

wordpress or website buildersI can tell you this, WordPress is not just a website or webpage builder, it is a (CMS), content management system. A content management system is an application that can be used to manage the creation and modification of digital content. They are typically used for enterprise content management and web content management.

A CMS, is a platform that lets its users create, edit, archive, collaborate, report, publish, distribute and inform. Its Graphic User Interface (GUI), makes interacting with a website’s database user friendly. With WordPress, you can run video, audio, images, tables and more, and it handles it in a database form. Meaning with a database, you are storing digital information without limits. Web builder like WIX, are pretty front-end platforms with no substance.

WordPress is also fully customizable. Usually whatever you think you would like a website to do, there is a plugin or code that can make it do what you want it too. Most people that are serious about having a website to get traffic and or make money, use WordPress. It is far superior over web page builders, in design and with SEO. Web page builders don’t have the ability to do be optimized for (SEO) Search Engine Optimization.

What are Page Builders?

Pages Builders are popular and easy to design and manage. You see commercials for WIX, Weebly, GoDaddy, Webs and many more. These are drag and drop designers, no coding or high technical knowledge needed. However, this sounds great and much easier than WordPress. However, with all that ease, comes many imitations.

Page builders are offered with the free versions. Many people think that they can create a free website and make lots of money, or get a lot of attention. But there is a catch with free. Most free page wordpress or website buildersbuilders come with a limited bandwidth around 500MB to 800MB. If you are getting a mild amount of traffic, that limit will be reached very fast.

The other issue with Free is, your URL. If you had a WIX site and you wanted to name your site, “Golf Pro”. Your URL would look something like this: www.username.wixsite.com/Golf-Pro. Most free web page builders use your log in username in the URL. If you are trying to be found on the internet with an address like this, good luck.

Page builders are good if you want to show off images, write blog articles and things like that. However, getting found in search engines is still an issue. There are html tags and some code that real websites have that help search engines find you, that page builders don’t have. Another thing is buying a domain name for your site. Using WIX again, you would go from www.username.wixsite.com/Golf-Pro to www.golf-pro.com, which is great, but do you know how WIX does that? You are still going through their site, they just set up a redirect, so it just creates another step to find you. This can also affect your access speed.

WordPress and Page Builder Comparisons

Page builders are intuitive, easy to use. Most come with many, hundreds of templates at your disposal. Some let you create your own templates. Most are 100% customizable. Not to be insulting, but if you lack a creative imagination, they have enough templates and layouts, that takes the thinking about it, out of the equation.

WordPress shouldn’t be confused with WordPress.Org. WordPress.org is another free to paid page builder, but has many of real WordPress features. The real WordPress is more intimidating because it isn’t simple drag and drop and sometimes it requires some real thinking to get what you want. Although, there are drag and drop page builder plugins you can install and it makes page creation as easy as WIX and the others.

With WordPress, you host it on a server, usually you pay a hosting company. However, this is no different than the Page Builder companies. If you want your own domain name, you have to pay them as well. The nice thing about WordPress sites, if you want to move them to other hosting companies, it is pretty easy. Most Page Builder sites are difficult or you can’t move them at all.

WordPress is also great if you want to have memberships to join your sight. There are many plugins for security that Page Builders don’t have. Most hosting companies supply many varieties of backup programs now, so if you just need to restore a page, you can. If you want to backup your entire site to your local computer, you can.

Conclusion

If you are just wanting a place to point people too, for your articles, or show off your pictures. If you are not that serious about blogging or making money from a website. Then a Website builder should be fine for you. However, if you are wanting to make money, or draw real attention to your website and have a wider range of options to choose from. WordPress is what you should use. All the big-time internet marketers use WordPress or they hire developers to create one from code. No one uses Website builders for real business.

WordPress is far superior over Website Builders but they are harder to use. There will be a learning curve to use it. But in the end, you will be so glad you did for all the benefits you get from it. If you are looking to start into Internet Marketing, you should try Wealthy Affiliate. They have a free and paid membership. Both teach you how to use WordPress. You will also learn how to get traffic to your sites and so much more.

Once you learn WordPress, I am going to give you a tip. Stay away from all the free crap out there. I learned the hard way that wrestling and struggling with making all that free stuff work the way I wanted it, just cost me time. In all that time, I could have been making money if I had just used real tools. Buy into a Theme and Plugin system. The best out there is Thrive, they offer all you need and support. Which is priceless when learning this stuff. The next system that works really well is Brizy, they offer a free version which makes learning it easy. But you would eventually want the paid version.
